hi i am new to this site. About a year ago i was prescribed yet another pill-this being Actos. After 3 weeks i had gained 10 lbs and my stomach was bloated and rock hard. After moaning about it i finally came off it 4 weeks ago because there was a manufacturing problem and the chemist could not get any.To date i have lost 6lbs without even trying. Weight gain is one of the side effects but try telling that to your doctor. My blood sugar is high (for me) in the morning but ok during the day. I do not eat anything after my evening meal around 6 ish, and take tablets before going to bed. Why is this happening and do any other people have this problem?.

Hi Pauline, welcome to the forum 🙂 Have you been diagnosed long? It's likely that your higher levels in the morning are due to something called 'dawn phenomenon' - this is where your liver releases extra glucose into your blood as you wake to give you a 'boost' at the start of the day, and it is very common. Some people find that eating a small protein snack before bed helps to reduce this effect. Also, eating a low carb breakfast soon after rising can help to 'switch off' the liver as it signals that you now have food so don't need the extra glucose.

Welcome to the forum Pauline 🙂 Well done on that weight loss!

Are you on anything other then Actos/Pioglitazone?

hi pauline
i haven't had exactly same problem but the weight gain on medication and easy loss when you came off sounds familiar - i have had same problems with gliclazides when i came off them last year i lost 4kg now dr put me back on them i have put it on plus plus and struggling to lose it again
