Hi all,
New member here,
I'm on following and on week 3 of following prescription:

As discussed during your consultation, please start Metformin 500 mg tablets as below:
week 1- take 1 tab with breakfast everyday
week 2- take 1 tab with breakfast and evening meal everyday
week 3- take 2 tabs with breakfast and 1 tab with evening meal everyday
week 4 and ongoing- take 2 tabs twice daily.

Week 1 my average read was 12.5,
Now on week 3 my average is 7.5.
I do 2 random pre and post meal tests.l every day.
I'm worried that week 4 may see me drop too low?
Being type 2 I've never had a low hypo and it worries me.
Should I discuss with my nurse before I go to 4 tablets?
Thanks.

You are most unlikely to have a hypo taking Metformin - it doesn't work to remove glucose from the bloodstream like more active medications.

Metformin shouldn’t give you hypos, there are other tablets that can though.

You won’t have a dangerous hypo on metformin, it doesn’t work like that. Even non diabetics have blood sugars under 4 though so don’t panic if ever you do see a number in the 3s

Metformin is generally said to be unlikely to cause hypos. As a new Type 2 your concern is with Hyperglycemia not hypoglycemia.
Good progress so far.
