Hi folks 🙂

Diagnosed 2 August, and I've spent the past couple of weeks reading everything I could get my hands on about this!

I'm a mum of 2 boys, living in Liverpool with my wonderful partner. And the dog! I also have numerous other heath problems, including M.E., chronic neuropathic pain and too many gastric problems to name! It feels like I'm falling apart at the seams sometimes :(

My GP's Practice Nurse told me to come back in 6 weeks for a check-up, and gave me a heap of useless leaflets. 🙄 I have the eye screening at the end of this month, and have to book a place on the X-pert course, which will be fun as I'm pretty much housebound! Still, we'll see if I can manage it somehow.

That's about it for now. I didn't think I'd be this wordy!

Looking forward to chatting with you all :D

Hi Nick and welcome.

Its really strange but the picture in your Avatar looks quite like one of my cousins, though I know you are not unless you have changed name, had children I know nothing about etc.

If you feel you need additional support for your Diabetes - see if your GP can refer you to see a Community DSN - they operate in parts of Liverpool. From what you have said you may have conditions that may complicate the management of your diabetes. They may not at the moment its a question of wait and see - but if they do ask for a referral to one of the hospitals.

If you haven't read it already this link may be helpful.

That's a 3D model I designed and created! If she looks realistic, I got it right!

Thanks for the links. I'm dreading needing to see the hospital, as I'll probably end up at the Royal, which is my least fave place to spend time :( Still, I'm keeping an eye out for possible complications, and won't hesitate to push for a referral if I think it's necessary.

Sounds like you have a few 'challenges' to keep you busy. I hope you can find a way of balancing them all so that they don't impact on one another.

Nick

I mentioned complications as you said that you had numerous gastric problems and its possible that they could interfere with your diabetes management. You could be lucky though.

I know of someone in South Liverpool who got a referral to Aintree (Fazakerley) so if you need a referral and can't face the Royal see if your Dr will refer you to Aintree.

Hi and welcome, I had ME in my 20's, bloody awful illness, them to get the dreaded D, life's a bitch, but the kind peeps on here r very supportive xxx

Hi Nick, welcome to the forum 🙂 It sounds like you have enough to deal with already so I hope the diabetes fairy is kind to you. It's good to hear that you have already been offered the Xpert course as it indicates your healthcare team are proactive in helping you learn to manage your diabetes. Have you been given a meter and instructed about testing? I'd suggest reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter (if you haven't already! 🙂)

Welcome to the forum Nick 🙂
