An 18-year-old student from Watford is making a splash for Diabetes UK by taking part in a 22-mile swimming challenge to raise funds for the charity.

Keida McAlinden was only diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes three months ago and is taking part in Swim 22 because she would like to raise awareness about the condition and help fund more research into the condition.

People with Type 1 diabetes produce no insulin, and have to have daily insulin doses - taken either by injections or via an insulin pump – and by following a healthy diet and taking regular physical activity.
