I've had a busy day today rushing about doing bits and pieces and come about 14.00 I was sweating, feeling shaky, sick and headache. I tested and I was at 5.4 which isn't particularly low really. (I usually sit around 8). Cup of sweet tea and I'm back up to 6.5 and feeling better. Was this actually a hypo or was I just a bit hungry?

I think that is what is known in the game as a 'false hypo', very common if your bgs have been running high for a time and coming down.

It could have been a false hypo.
This is where your brain is used to running with much higher glucose and get rather concerned/thinks it's being starved when your levels drop lower than it's used to but are well above 4.0.

It can also happen when our levels are dropping fast.

Thanks guys. I knew the reading was too high to be a proper hypo. I've never heard of a false hypo before but that certainly seems to explain what I was feeling.

False Hypo's are actually very common, just a small correction will help with the symptoms.... Just test & don't panic😱

Trulicity can cause hypo's so it's best to be cautious if you are feeling a little "off"....

Unlike a real hypo where you need fast acting carbs.
False hypo's , by having a small low carb snack can Sometimes fool the body ie, ah she's eaten so I'm ok . It doesn't always work though.
My view on treating false hypo's is, having fast acting carbs fora False hypo's is, that it only prolongs the problem.
The good things about false ones is, you now know our symptoms and they are not dangerous.

I didn't know trulicity causes hypos. The nurse never mentioned it.

It's one of the potential side affects..... Particularly with drugs like Sulfonylureas or similar anti-diabetic drugs
