My waking bloods were 7.8 then I had 2 burgen toast and they and now they are 10.8 they are my highest what causes them to be high in the mornings? And how can I get them down without starving myself? I type 2 controlled by diet

That is a rise of exactly 3mmols so whilst it is not a bad result, it could be better. Did you test immediately before eating as well as on waking or did you eat pretty well as soon as you got up? The reason I ask is that if it was half an hour or more after you got up that you ate then part of that rise in BG may be down to Foot on the Floor or Dawn Phenomenon rather than it all being down to your breakfast. My levels rocket up as soon as I set foot out of bed and long before I have breakfast, so testing right before you eat breakfast might give you a better idea of whether 2 slices of Burgen is a bit too much or they are fine and it is just some FOTF/DP which is inflating your readings.

If 2 Bergen is too much then try just one with some scrambled eggs with or without ham/bacon/mushrooms/smoked salmon... whatever low carb food you fancy. Those protein and fat rich foods should fill you up better than the bread and keep you from feeling hungry. Alternatively some nice thick creamy Greek style natural yoghurt with some berries/seeds/chopped nuts if you don't want to cook anything on a morning.

I got up and had a coffee and a bath before I did my BG then tested just as I was about to eat my toast and 2 hours after, I will try the 1 toast with some scrambled egg thanks

Morning (fasting) reading are often the last to come down so if the rest of the day shows lower then don't worry too much. I have never seen a morning reading of less than 6.2 and my HbA1C id now 36mmol/mol.
The more important thing is that increase from food.

Ok, in that case you might find that your actual waking BG before you get out of bed may be quite a bit lower than the 7.8 but looks like 2 slices of Burgen is perhaps just a bit much for your system. Hopefully one slice loaded with plenty of eggs and anything else low carb that you fancy will fill you up but keep your BG levels more in range.
I would also say that you shouldn't discount or assume anything from just one set of readings as there are too many things which impact your BG to be confident of any one result. Try your 2 slices of Burgen a day or two more if you haven't already, before swapping one slice for eggs.... unless you like the idea of having eggs. I am assuming that you didn't have jam or marmalade or some other high carb spread on the Burgen which might have inflated the result?

Maybe try marmite, peanut butter or cheese spread with cucumber.

I am the same 6.2-6.4 when just got out of bed and Hba1c of 36. 2 Slices of Burgen would give me quite a rise but find 2 slices of Weightwatchers malted Danish (9g each) with marmite and spread only takes me to high 7s.

What's Burgen - ISTR it used to be somewhere around 12g ish a slice?

Just to add that I find hot showers make my BG levels rise too so they might also be impacted by that. Morning BGs are often the last to fall so, if later readings in the day are coming down much more in line, then you will find your fasting ones will drop too after a while.

Yes I think so.

Hope you find a slightly more BG-friendly breakfast @WendyB61 (though your rise wasn’t actually hugely dramatic).

And as others have said, the pre-breakfast fasting readings tend to be the last to come down, and breakfast time is often one where people struggle more with carbs than at other times in the day.

Might do better with the 9g bread, but won't be a vast difference.

My go to bread is Burgen but it can be difficult to source sometimes. I got a Vogels loaf the other day. It’s also soya and linseed, slightly higher in carbs and slightly lower in sugar. I prefer it’s flavour and it makes nice toast. Anyone familiar with it?
