Hi Michael,I was diagnosed 5 weeks ago and have changed my diet to a low carb one and I have lost a stone and a half,I have started to walk for 30 mins briskly after breakfast and the same again half an hour(when it hasn't been lashing it down) after dinner 2 miles each trip,I led a very sedentary life,I've enjoyed having a goal and after losing weight quickly the exercise has been a lot easier and certainly more enjoyable,my second blood test last week was heading in the right direction, good luck to you,I'm sure this site will be very useful to you, keep going you will feel better when you make some adjustments to your life going forward

Rather than losing weight and increasing exercise, if your Hba1c is rather high - I suggest that you think about reducing that before anything else.
Eating high carb foods will raise your blood glucose level for some time after the meal, so cutting out the high sugar foods, reducing your consumption of high starch foods down to what you can cope with will be very beneficial.
It will be easer to work out what to eat if you get a meter to measure your blood glucose - they are available mail order along with the strips at a reasonable price.

Hi Michael, good advice from the others above. Good luck on your journey. We are all here to help
