Hi all and HNY. I am in full panic mode and apologise in advance. I have. not been dx with diabetes but convinced I have it. My last HBA1c test ( which I paid for) in Sept 2020 was normal.
I was doing quite a bit of running etc but in April 2021 got an injury that stopped me. Started running again earlier this year but on one run felt an issue on a hamstring ( not a strain that suddenly stops you) but it got worse as i continued running. So stopped exercise again. Been seeing physio but not helped. Now worried its nerve damage. Also got a yeast infection which I know s indicative of diabetes. Got GP appt on Mon. Just really worried i have diabetes that has caused some damage to me. On top of this I have incurable cancer so feeling pretty down. Sorry for the long post

Sorry to hear you’re having health problems @Ezra It must be hard to deal with other health issues in your situation.

Yes, thrush can be a symptom of diabetes but most people who have thrush don’t have diabetes. There are lots of causes of thrush. Can you explain a little about your concerns about diabetes? Do you have a family history and/or are you at risk of developing Type 2 due to your weight or other reasons?

Who ordered the 2020 HbA1C and why? What symptoms make you think you have diabetes apart from the thrush?

Hi thank you for your reply. I think I did the previous test due to the concerns associated with Covid and diabetes. Just wanted to check I guess. I gave no thought to diabetes since until recently. I have got something happening in the hamstring area that doesnt feel like a normal h/string injury. Under physio for a couple of month with no improvement. I strangely get the odd sharp twinge in the hamstring area whilst sat ‍♂️ Yet i first felt the hanstring issue whilst running and it got progressively worse. Dont get me wrong i am not laid up with it. Early last year i did get some sharp pains in my instep on my foot but i do have gout and was hit and miss with my meds so put that down to the gout. I know it sounds like I am putting 2+2 together and coming up with 5 and I do overthink things and reading this post back I can see how ridiculous it all seems. but the anxiety is certainly real. Sorry

No need to apologise @Ezra 🙂 Anxiety is very common and it’s not something you can just push away.

The hamstring problem doesn’t sound diabetes-related (I’m not a doctor - that’s just my opinion). Although long-term diabetes can affect the limbs, that’s usually in the form of neuropathy which is usually numbness and pins and needles at the early stage. That numbness and tingling isn’t related to exercise and it’s not a muscle or ligament pain, if that makes sense. It usual starts in the extremities eg the toes and fingers.

As you’re concerned, having another HbA1C might be a good idea. Hopefully it will show you don’t have diabetes and then you’ll get that reassurance which is so crucial when you’re worried about something.

You’re very welcome. Sending you my best wishes x

You haven’t mentioned any symptoms of diabetes in your posts so you may be panicking over nothing. Have you been drinking lots, peeing lots, losing weight without trying, fruity smell on breath, changes in eyesight?

Hi Lucy, i havent been drinking more than usual or peeing more than usual (although some days i am more frequent than others which I guess is normal), never up at night for a pee, not losing weight, eyesight does get a bit blurry at times but i have astigmatism and eyes ok a year ago when checked at hospital for another issue. But i suppose not everyone gets the classic symptoms, do they?

Sounds like as you have no symptoms and a1c was fine last time you had it checked then it’s unlikely you have diabetes. But speak to the GP about your concerns if it’s worrying you.

Thanks Lucy. I have an appt on Monday. I am concerned about the sharp twinges i get at the back of my thigh and as I said previously i have got a yeast infection. Thank you for your reply

Sorry to hear about your health worries.

Hope you are able to get some reassurance on Monday from your GP.

Try not to let your imagination run away with you with worries about diabetes, particularly since you’ve had an all clear a couple of years ago. And it doesn’t sound like you are experiencing any of the classic symptoms.

So sorry to hear about your cancer. Sounds like that is much more worthy of your attention. Are you receiving treatment for it?

Hi i had surgery and RT for my cancer some years ago but i have had a recurrance. I am been monitored until it reaches a stage where further treatment is necessary to manage it. My thigh issue started months ago and I will be honest since i thought about diabetes earlier this week I feel other symptoms eg very very slight tingling in my left hand (not pins & needles) but even i know thats pretty strange as it's only come on since i arranged my gp appt. Prob psychosomatic. Ive had none of the classic symptoms so really hoping as usual i am being OTT. Thank you
