Have vitamin D insufficiency and am trying some supplements to up my optimal level.

Wanting information on this, decided to buy a book on this topic and found there were ones on vitamin 3D. So now thinking, which book is going to better explain this vitamin D insufficiency and what steps to take to correct this. Would there be a difference in the details offered on each of these vitamins...?

It's the Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) you need to supplement a deficiency Lydia. That's what GP's usually prescribe. Cholecalciferol is one of the two major forms of vitamin D. It’s what your body naturally synthesizes in your skin during exposure to sunlight.

In terms of books, there are so many out there Lydia and many are positively evangelical in their praise of Vit D as the panacea for all ills. I suspect your GP will dismiss much of it as unproven bunkum and it is actually important to distinguish between mildly low levels (which may be worse in the winter months) and a VitD deficiency. There's a good chance your GP will be guided by advice like this;

Yep. Just checked that webpage. It's actually a vitamin D insufficiency i have, confirmed by a private blood test. So i will take a browse on my kindle to check out some books on this vitamin. As you've pointed out. It is quite a serious one to keep at optimal level....

Just an additional question. I know lack of vitamin D is connected with calcium, bones, so just wondering if it can cause neck pain? Getting the twinge in my neck that is a bit painful at times and mystified as to what this can be????

nWell does the neck pain emanate from weakening bones - or is it muscular, or tendons or something else? LOL

If you can't identify where it's actually coming from, how can you or anyone else guess the root cause! I used to have neck ache and asked the doc, he did have a feel, prod and poke but there was nowt obvious and we both just decided it was most like Anno Domini. Then we went on holiday for a week where there was only one pillow each, and we arrived very late - so put up with it and when we woke up the next morning both said what a fantastic night's sleep we'd had. Since then having chucked out the second one on our bed at home - no neck pain unless I've done something daft ! Later I was told I had low Vit D -high 30s same as yours but GP only gave me a months supply of Vit D capsules and has refused to check it ever since. I'm going on a long holiday in the sun very soon and think I'll start taking calciferol when I come back, at least over the winter.

In the meantime, try to get some exposure to sunlight, without burning. In most people, some 90% of their vitamin D intake comes from sunshine and only 10% from diet. If you have biochemical problems inside your body, then changing the intake chemical to vitamin D which your body can use might be the problem, rather than the amount of exposure / intake.

Been checking online. About the neck twinges. About pinched or trapped nerves. They seem to be about a stiff neck, whereas these are sharp twinges that pull me up suddenly. There's no real pain in my shoulders, arms, very occasionally and sometimes a soreness which might be related to weights I was using. Using less weights now. Just every now and again, the sort of pull on my neck. Doesn't affect me when I'm sleeping.

This article suggests that a sudden, non traumatic neck pain could be due to a degenerating unhealthy disc(cervical disc disease)? Micro-trauma tears? Might need an xray or MRI scan to check on this? As the joints would have been degenerating too, so quite a serious health hazard. A sign of aging.

They mention other similar conditions related to degeneration. They seem to suggest these conditions are quite painful whereas my pain only happens about 2 or 3 times a day, instantly, then goes away. Wondering if I could have pulled a muscle there somehow? Checked that and it mentions, a wry neck or torticollis? Checked symptoms and it doesn't appear to be that...
