Hi AM64

Anything you need to know about B12 I will more than likely be able to answer.

I had about 5 years of a nightmare trying to prove it was causing (and still is) a problem.

Cheers

Andy

Ive got to get my head round it a bit but i believe it its given in injections ? my Hubby has just told me of a 89yr old who has to have it done every 3 months ...and she used to deliver spitfires in the 2WW so im sure its not going to kill me but may help with alot of stuff ...ie whats going on with BS and my tiredness etc
off to read the threads ...be back with questions
🙂

ok caught up with threads .... i am just so pleased that I have such a good GP who has picked this up
thanks folks ...i love this place :D

Am - I really wonder - seriously! - if you may be able to ditch that first drug - or some of it - on your list once you get the B12 into your system?

In any event I hope you feel a lot better all round, soon !

well its all a bit interesting really ...will wait for the results and then if it is the case i will have a good chat with GP ...i veer on the side of anaemia ...it was very bad when i was pregnant ...and i couldnt digest the iron tablets until i got hold of amino chelated iron ...
can you get amino chelated B12 ?
bloood tests wont be till next week now then im off to deepest darkest wales for 2 weeks so wont get results until end of july...
so heres a question should i in the meantime get some over the counter stuff ?

I think metformin has a role in reducing B vitamin levels. It's easy to supplement though. If you're not low-carbing, bread is usually packed with B vits (as is lager, although the alcohol limits the absorption). Basically anything with yeast in it is good for B vits, which means Marmite is definitely My Mate.

Otherwise, B-complex supplements are very cheap. You can also tell when you're taking too much as your pee goes luminous yellow!

Hi AM64

The over the counter stuff was useless for me. From what I remember reading my body was unable to produce something called intrinsic factor in the lower intestine. Apparently I could have eaten a full bottle of B12 supplements and it would have been useless.

After diagnosis I had 5 injections in the space of a couple of weeks and go back for a top up every 3 months. The stuff they inject is called Hydroxocobalamin.
