A stampede for an unproven “cure” for Covid-19 is clearing the pharmacy shelves of a medicine that is vital for up to 5 million people around the world suffering from lupus, as countries bow to populist pressure and abandon the trials that would show whether hydroxychloroquine works against coronavirus infection.

Both Italy and France have said doctors can now prescribe hydroxychloroquine – a less toxic version of the malaria drug chloroquine – even though there is no robust evidence to prove that it is effective against Covid-19.

I'm surprised metformin hasn't been touted as a treatment yet - the number of articles claiming a benefit from it for a myriad of ailments over the years ought to mean it is the first drug to try! 😱 🙂

I was watching a CNN Town Hall on the virus, and a video caller said, he in US need to refill his prescription soon and has been told by both his Physician and Pharmacist can not get, as the drug has redirected for trails. It is the only thing that controls his Lupus. Dr.Fauci said that they should be using this drug for what they know it is proved to be good at controlling, and there is not any proven evidence it works for the virus , until some good trials have been done. I would have thought as Lupus can get all parts of the body , that these people would be at greater risk if they do not get their medication.

I saw a post from someone on Facebook the other day from someone with lupus who had been sent an email from the pharmacy - it said they couldn't provide her medication this month as it was being used for covid-19 patients, and thanked her for 'her sacrifice'! 😱 :( I hope they don't discover that insulin works, but only in bucketloads 😱 :( There would be (I hope!) total outrage here and the pharmacy would be struck off for withholding vital medications! 😱 :(
