Fluctuating glucose levels can wreak havoc on the eye causing blurred and distorted vision, that's why ophthalmologist Beth Bruening, said it's important for diabetics to manage their blood sugar.

Bruening, who will discuss diabetic eye complications at Family Health Care of Siouxland's free Diabetes Wellness Fair Oct. 12 at the Sioux City Convention Center, said diabetics should also pay attention to their cholesterol and blood pressure to stave off eye problems.

The longer patients have diabetes, the more likely they are to develop vision loss. Children diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, Bruening said, are at high risk for developing diabetic eye disease between the ages of 35 and 50.

Where does cholesterol come into it? she doesn't say.

If you have ragingly high chol, for a long time and you are prone to this, it can land up as yellow blobs on the surface of the whites of your eyes!

You don't have to be diabetic for this to happen though, it's just yet another sign to a doctor that summat is up.
