I've worn glasses for about 7/8 years now, I'm short sighted. For about the past 10 minutes my vision has gone a bit strange. The best way I can describe it would be it's like looking partially through a Kaleidescope! My bs levels are ok. It's to the right hand side of my field of vision and it's present with my glasses on, off and when I close my eyes. I've not looked into any bright lights or anything and it just suddenly started.
Any clues?

Hi Stitch. If I have been de-hydrated. My eyes don't like it. I can feel the benefit of a glass of water. Good luck

I've been drinking loads today. But I'll have something and see what happens.

I would ask for an emergency appt. with optician. My hubby has had various issues with his eyes over the years with losing peripheral vision, floaters and a burst blood vessel that turned his whole eye black!! He doesn't have diabetes but his mother had glaucoma so he's vigilant. His loss of peripheral vision was a symptom of migraine, even though he doesn't get a headache. No one knows why he burst a blood vessel in his eye as he hadn't had a blow to the head and he wasn't diabetic - according to the consultant who saw him as an emergency at A&E they were the only causes!!! The consultant had him back a few times for check ups but then declared it's cause a mystery!!

Sounds like a visual migraine Stitch. I have these from time to time and they are exactly as you describe - and can be quite alarming! It just means your eyes need resting for 10 minutes or so 🙂

Just been for a walk round the block, it's dark out there and that seems to have helped it. Right eye is a bit watery now. But Kaleidescope has gone.

Glad it seems to be easing now, tbh if I were you I’d get eyes check out with an Optition or speak with your GP

When it first happened to me I was really scared - thought I was having a stroke! 😱 I actually asked my GP about it and she couldn't explain it, but when I had my eyes tested (optician, not retinopathy) she identified it immediately 🙂 It's happened to me maybe half a dozen times over the past 3 years.

I might pop to opticians tomorrow. I've also got my retinopathy appointment on the 25th of this month so I'll mention there as well. Just had a read up on NHS website sounds exactly like what I had, complete with the start of a headache now.

Just caught up,with this, I'd go with visual migraine as well. The first time I had one, I'd been in a newly painted building, with a very strong chemical smell. The next time I started having them regularly, I tracked it down to a cleaning product. Sometimes I get them if I'm tired, or stressed, or sometimes for no discernable reason.

Hugs Stitch. Sounds exactly like my visual migraines. I've usually had them when I've gone through a period of stress. I usually feel quite yucky for a few hours afterwards but no lasting effects. As Northerner said the first few times they were scary. Take care x

Yes see the optician tomorrow Stitch just to check things out. Things like that are scary x

Yup, agree with Northie and AJ. Classic decription - textbook, I should say - of visual migraine. The only thing that can produce similar symptoms is a retinal detachment, which doesn’t clear up, so no worries.

I should add that, from experience, it can also precede a grand mal epileptic fit, but as you haven’t picked yourself up off the floor with damp knickers, I don’t think that’s a worry either🙂
