Good morning folks, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes yesterday, my head is in a spin, seeing diabetes nurse on Monday

They're going to say it...tell us a bit more about you, your diagnosis, any advice you have been given. It will help us to relate to you better and offer advice/support/help where appropriate.

Welcome to forum @Jay Judge , glad that you have found us.

You might find it useful to have a look at the Learning Zone on this web site, which may be a tab at the top of the page or in a menu. This gives specific info for different types of diabetes. There are also a lot of links in the pinned thread at the top of the newbies. (struggling to copy in hyperlinks as working one handed) .

I would suggest taking a note book on Monday to your appointment. Do come back with any questions you have. There is wealth of experience to tap into on here, and no questions are considered silly. Just ask.

I have been pre diabetic for years, I also have non alcoholic fatty liver disease which I’ve had for years, recently everything went kind of crazy, numerous urine infections, blood sugars all over the place and liver very inflamed so I’m being sent on an urgent appointment to the liver guys for scans and whatever else they do, I have chronic arthritis which is now a nightmare as I have been told not to take any of my pain relief
Crazy leg cramps several times a night and feeling exhausted

Hi Jay thanks for the additional info. With the other conditions it must be difficult to manage especially feeling so tired.

You may find that with the T2 diagnosis and support, you may be able to get your levels more in range and this may help with some of your other symptoms. come back with questions.

Hi Jay Judge,

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear that you're experiencing so many health complications. As mentioned, getting your blood sugar numbers under control can have a helpful side effect on the other issues as sugar and carbs can contribute to inflammation which is a key factor in many of thee concerns.

It might be useful to note down a few questions that you have ahead of your appointment so that yo can make sure you get the information that you need.

If there's anything we can help with, do ask and feel free to take a look around as we have lots of helpful info on the site.

Puzzled (as a person with no medical training) re the stopping of pain relief medication suddenly - inflammation anywhere at all in the body, usually causes an increase in blood glucose.

Welcome to the forum @Jay Judge!

Glad you have found us 🙂 It can be a real help to have others alongside you who face the same frustrations and challenges day to day.

Hope the appointment goes well with your practice nurse on Monday. Let us know how it goes. As others have suggested, it can really help to jot down any questions which have occurred to you before you go, as it’s very easy to get caught up in the conversation and only remember most of what you wanted to ask after you have left!

If you’d like a bit of light reading to get you started, members here frequently recommend Maggie Davey’s Letter and Gretchen Becker’s book T2 Diabetes, the first year, which will give you a good bit of background into T2 and how it can be managed 🙂

I would certainly ask about the reasoning behind them telling you to stop your pain meds. If there is a logical reason then it is easier to put up with.
I know there is something they can prescribe for night cramps so I would ask about that as well.
