hi, I went to bed with blood of 8, this morning they are 16 which is obviously very high. I am struggling to get my insulins right but 8 seemed OK considering I'd had a mini mincepie after dinner. I took extra insulin to account for it and it was only 7g cards. Would that mince pie really result in such a high reading?

Mince pies are usually more than 7g of carbs. Also, there are other factors that could push your sugars high the morning such as dawn phenomenon, are they usually higher in the morning?

What insulins are you taking @Ratbag ? And what time did you get the blood test result of 8 and what time did you eat the little mince pie?

Also, did you wash your hands this morning and test again. It is easy to get a rogue reading just from passing someone the jam jar at the breakfast table etc and a tiny smeal of jam contaminating your fingers even if you can't feel it sticky so always a good idea to wash hands and retest to be sure that high reading was correct.

Hi

As all above have said and if it is a one off raised BG in the morning the mince pie could have caused it, or possibly too much insulin leading to an overnight hypo. If this becomes a patten of high morning BG's it might be worth discussing a slight increase in your long acting insulin (if you are the Basal/ Bolus regime with your medical team.

Good luck
