I am diagnoised recently with diabetes when I tested randomly, the blood Sugar count was 349. after 1 week with proper food and exercise it has come down to 78 on random test. I would like to know what is the radom blood sugar level to maintain.
Hi Venkat, welcome to the forum 🙂 We user different units here in the UK, but to translate into your figures, the ideal numbers to aim for are between 72 and 126 before meals and no more than 153 2 hours after meals. These are ideal figures though ans it may take a while learning about how different foods affect you before you are able to achieve them. Are you on any medication for your diabetes?
Hi Venkat V -- where in the world are you? Evidently somewhere which uses mg/dl to measure blood glucose -- as Northerner has said, we in the UK use mmol/l, so you have to bear that in mind when reading this forum. Fortunately the relationship is simple; 1 mmol/l = 18 mg/dl (I believe that's an exact conversion).
Your initial reading translates to 19.4 in our terms --that is quite high. 😱 Still, you seem to have got it under control -- the important thing is to control it, don't let it control you...
Welcome Venkat. I also wondered where in the world you are? Robert has already covered the issues of blood glucose units, but I wonder if you are type 2, not type 1 as you've stated, as food and exercise alone would help type 2, but to treat type 1, insulin is needed.
Guidelines for people diagnosed with diabetes are for fasting / before meals and 2 hours after, not for random times.
