I am sorry if this is in the wrong place, I was hoping someone could help me understand my varying HBA1C numbers. 2 years ago I got 48 and then 46, the tests were one week apart. 4 months ago I got 48 and 45, the tests were three weeks apart. I have just got 49 and 45, the tests were two weeks apart. I really don't understand this and was hoping someone could maybe explain. I have a phone appt with the doctor on the 23rd, I don't know what they are going to say at all.
Thank you in advance for any replies.

Quite common apparently.

"We believe a policy of retesting HbA1c after a single apparently diagnostic result seems to be justified, with nearly 40% of cases having a repeat test below the diagnostic threshold. Clinicians need to be aware that significant test-retest variation exists in HbA1c and is sometimes quite large."
