Variables that we can change to impact algorithm in HCL

I thought that it might be useful to have some idea of what we can change as a user in each of the algorithms for HCL systems.

Medtronic 780 and sensors (Guardian or Simplera sync)
I have had conflicting advice and would be glad of clarification from others.
Algorithm:
  • target glucose level
  • temp target for exercise (which shuts off auto corrections)
  • insulin carb ratios and
  • active insulin time (not the same as the profile for chosen insulin)
For the bolus calculator nothing has changed and we need to enter/adjust as necessary:
Carb count, carb ratios, timing of bolus and sensitivity factors (not used in algorithm)

What are the variables in HCL for other systems?

For Tandem tSlim

I believe this is one of the most tweakable algorithms?

Any adjustments you make are based on the profile you have set, and have active (you can have several if you wish). So the basal reductions / increases would be based on the basal profile you have set (and could adjust). Any corrections are based on the insulin-sensitivity factor you have set.

You can also add manual corrections, and still use dual-wave / extended-wave boluses.

One of the only oddities is at the insulin acting time is fixed at 5 hours with Control IQ, and the target level is fixed too.

For me it seemed to act fairly conservatively, and relatively late. Any intervention the algorithm makes can also stop very promptly in response to changing BG levels.

Can anyone add to this list for other HCL systems?
