I was diagnosed with a UTI last Friday and put on 3 day course of antibiotics. My bg levels have been all over the place for the past few weeks, mainly first thing in the morning. I do think the infection has been there for a while, hence the higher than normal readings.

What do I do? Is it better not to test when I have an infection? Frankly, the high readings are depressing me and I worry how all this will affect my Hba1c which is due. The doctor suggested that I drink cranberry juice, but I haven't drunk anything like that since diagnosis and it certainly spikes me.

Dunno, guess I'm feeling a bit down there right now and feeling a bit frightened. Symptoms are alleviating but just to be on the safe side, I have made another appointment for Thursday.

For the record, this is the first course of antibiotics I have had since 2008.

I hope you feel better soon. Infections will raise the levels as your body fights them.

Cranberry juice is said to be beneficial, but if you find it makes you spike perhaps there is something else you can have? My nan used to swear by lemon barley water, but you'd need a sugar free version.

I'd suggest keeping up the fluids and drink plenty of water as this helps to flush things out.

Hopefully when you go back to your doctor he will be able to give you different antibiotics or a longer course.

Hope the antibiotics clear the uti quickly

You do need to keep testing even though the raised BG is likely to be the infection, so you need to comment against these readings that you had an infection so that when you reviewing your results at a later date you remember what the raise is all about..

Also you need to see if all the raise is based on the infection or perhaps a little change happening in your control..

Boo hiss, UTIs are miserable. Poor you! In the past, I have drunk corn silk tea for UTIs, but I am in the non-d club so you would need to do some research first. Plenty of water in any case, and avoid coffee, sugar and spicy things until it has cleared up. And plenty of rest as it can really take it out of you! Hope you feel better very soon xx
