Using ypsopump with camAPS

Hi,
I'm new here and hoping there are people who have experience of using the ypsopump and camAPS closed loop system. I'm in the process of choosing a new pump (currently on accu-chek spirit combo) and this is one of the options being offered.
I'm wondering about the reality of always having to be within 6 metres of a mobile phone for the closed loop to work. Do you end up having to literally carry your phone on you all the time? I feel like I may be anxious all the time worrying about where I've left my phone, or whether I have enough charge left etc.
I would be grateful for any thoughts

Hi @Rache I got my new Ypsopump 2 weeks ago. I was a bit worried about needing to carry my phone everywhere too. It's been a lot easier than I expected and I think the 6m rule might be a bit of an underestimate because I'm sure I've been further than that. I'm ok anywhere in my house. I've even left my phone on my desk and gone to the neighbouring building to make a cup of tea and still been fine. I have lost connection once and when I got back to my phone it just uploaded the data from the last 10 minutes that it was missing and carried on as usual. I assume that if I was out of range for much longer than that then it would have to come out of auto mode and use the basal rate instead. I charge my phone by my bed every night so I know it will be fine the next day. I have a phone that can do induction charging so I bought a charging stand that is plugged in by the bed so I just put my phone on that before bed. I hope that helps a little?

Hi there Rachel

I had two combo pumps one after the other. I loved those pumps! Since then I have been on Omnipod and subsequently Omnipod 5 HCL. I had to carry not only my phone but the pod Personal Diabetes Monitor. It was a pain. I did not find the HCL at all effective and switched back to manual. I've been offered the Ypsopump and decided to take it. @trophywench who I know well is on the Ypsopump and CamAps and seems to like it.

Patti is correct - I do seem to like it, so far anyway. Got it on 30th January and have had t ring the Ypso helpline a few times since then and they have been brilliant, very empathetic and patient with me - and my husband who I made ring them instead of me, cos one chap I spoke to said I could try doing XYZ if what he said didn't work. Well what he said did seem to work but then I had the same prob again so the 2nd chap talked my husband through it cos husband didn't know how to do XYZ either. But in the finish anyway (though we both now know how to do XYZ so if either of us should happen to actually do that with an App in future, we will know where to start) it turned out to be something really simple that was causing a glitch between the CamAps and the CGM, since I hadn't deleted the original Librelink App on my phone. Hence the phone being quite sensible and recognising that the Libre App appeared to be more specific for the sensor was trying to reconnect to the Libre 3 sensor with the old Libre App. Cos yer mobile phone does make such assumptions cos that's what it's been designed to do. I just kept getting Error messages informing me, "Sensor not compatible with this version of the App" - well no, of course it isn't, I realised it wouldn't be and never imagined that my phone would try and use it instead of CamAps. DOH!!!

That major discovery was just 3 or 4 days ago, hence my voyage of discovery is literally only just starting really!

It's a learning curve with a new pump at the best of times and as @Natalie123 said, your phone does catch up with the pump and sensor before too long if you do go out of range or the phone loses charge. Yeah you do have to remember to charge it, but as you have to take it to bed with you anyway to keep the pump ticking away overnight, best get an extra charging lead so you can charge it overnight at the same time.

Thank you all for your replies, it's really helpful to hear your experiences and great to know you're here. Ypsopump was at the top of my list of choices and your positive comments are reassuring me that hopefully I won't be making the wrong decision! I think it will take a bit of getting used to having to rely on a phone as a part of the pump set up but from what you say it should be liveable with. Good to know that the helpline is really good too.

Best wishes
