I have discovered, with a bit of help from Pumper Sue and Northerner, that some of the bits that I don't see displayed maybe because I am using an iPad. However so far there have been ways around things and alternative routes into things. for example Start a conversation does not appear on my iPad when I click a persons name, however it is possible to get round that by going in via Inbox instead.
Learning all the time.

An ipad is a foreign beast to me, hadn't realised it is inferior in some respects! 😱 😉 It you can compile a list of things that you think ought to appear, but don't I can pass it on to DUK to look into - there are still a few small issues outstanding since we upgraded the forum software last October 🙂

I will make a note of things Northerner, and let you know of any issues that I find. It is difficult sometimes as I don't know what I don't know until something's comes up that I try to do (Not sure that that made sense!!)
Anyway I will do my best and if anyone else is aware of any issues regarding using an iPad they can add it in here.

I always use my iPad, and if I click on a persons name, I get a little pop up box with various options, like 'view profile' one of which is 'start a conversation' Might it be a pop up blocker that's causing SBs problem? ( I have no idea, I'm still at Nursery School in terms of modern technology)

The problem with pointing out things that don't happen on an iPad, is not knowing what's supposed to happen. Everyone else could be seeing the Diabetes Fairy in Cabaret on their laptops, for all we know!

Sigh! Do you mean to say that it doesn't happen on iPads? 🙄 😉

I have the other problem - not having an iPad, I don't know what people don't see!

I'm on an IPad, I can see the "Start A Conversation" button if I click on a person's name, only if I'm logged in though! Is that the difference maybe? I don't log in if I'm just browsing, only do when I want to post something. Or if someone posts a picture which for some reason won't display properly when I'm not logged in (sometimes happens, sometimes doesn't, no idea what the difference is!).

Just checked and my iPad also shows the little box and 'start a conversation' but I am logged on also.

Btw where is the fairy? I'm not on here every day so I may have missed something. I hope she's not getting married and planning a family of fairies.

My problem is tha i am a technophobe-self confessed so if it ain't in front of me, it aint happening, so i miss loads

No idea what I am doing or what my iPad is doing. I am logged in, clicked on Robin, and it just offers
Profile page, Follow, Ignore. No sight of Start Conversation.
Ho hum.

Obviously not because of the iPad.

Thanks for the help on these various threads. I shall not worry and just use what I can see is available and carry on asking if I want to do something that I can't.

For clarification, this is what you ought to see:

I wonder why you can't see it? I'll report it, it may be something that can be solved by changes in the forum software 🙂

Thanks Northerner. As I said there are ways round things but if there is some reason that it does not show that can be sorted out that would be great.

I believe DF has escaped from the asylum and was last seen heading up the Great North Road. I hope she's not coming here, I don't know that she'd survive the weather.

I don't have an iPad either but I can see the conversation button on my tablet and phone, both Android.

DF definitely unwilling to she in the iPad!

Hi Northerner, you asked for quirks that I find.
This may be another iPad one (or just me)
  • sometimes I have logged out and it still shows me as logged in, but does not let me access my alerts or reply to a post,
  • other times it shows me as logged out but then flips back to logged in so long as I go back to the Home page.
As I said before I am finding ways round the problems so it does not matter, but if you are looking at getting other things changed I thought I would add this one.

I'm using an iPad and have all the functionality, is it an older ipad SB2015? The old version of safari was very clunky so it could be that, If you've got a newer iPad then have you checked if it wants you to do a software update? There was a disasterous update one of the version 8s where everything went pear shaped, mso if you're not running the latest version of the OS you could be having issues related to that 🙂

Thanks Kookycat. I will check the settings and see if anything needs updating.
I have no idea what version I am on, perhaps this will prompt me to find out.
I just turn it on and if it doesn't work I turn it off and turn it off again.
If that doesn't work I turn it off and give it a rest. Very technical.

My iPad is just over three years old. Is that old?

Not especially old, it should still be supported. If you click on settings on the home page then general, and then software it will tell you what version it is. It should also tell you if it wants to download and install anything. I think I've added an image of what it looks like but not sure! Oh look I have but its appearing above for some bizarre reason :D

Thanks Kookycat.
I like the fact that this forum offers so much more than just Diabetes support.
