I've just been reading about a company in the US called 'Heaven Scent Paws'. Apparently they have been scamming parents over there by selling them dogs supposedly trained to detect hypos when they haven't really (not sure of the ins and outs). The US arm of Children With Diabetes has fought them in the courts for 4 years and finally won!

http://forums.childrenwithdiabetes.com/showthread.php?p=645366#post645366 (mostly legal stuff about the court order).

How awful and dangerous! The people involved have been putting children's lives at risk. :(

Note that this has no connection whatsoever with the UK charity CancerDogs UK - there is no question that their dogs are the genuine article!

Dreadful that people could abuse a service like this. Thank goodness they were exposed.

this company are a bunch of scum for trying to make a buck out of some ones illness ,in saying that i have heard stories of cats and dogs going crazy before their owner went into a hypo ,one dog even kept jumping up at the cupboard were the person kept their drugs ,so there must be something in these stories but that company were playing on peoples fears

There are properly trained Alert Dogs, William - see http://www.cancerdogs.co.uk/

However, this US company were selling untrained dogs for huge sums of money. People have also reported pets that react to hypos/hypers, but they don't pay a premium for these skills, like the US company were trying to do.

I hate it when people take advantage of others vulnerablities. Anyone who can scam like this should be hung drawn and quarterd!
