You should have been getting them done at least annually.Hi I’ve been T2 for over 2 yrs now, and fairly well controlled, im going for an HbA1c test soon, but been asked to bring in urine sample, what are they checking for in the sample.

It’s first time been asked for it, perhaps an oversight by GP team..You should have been getting them done at least annually.
Thanks @AnitramYour kidneys are one of the organs that can suffer complications from poorly-controlled diabetes (Nephropathy), which over time can lead to kidney damage and cause high blood pressure, so a urine sample should always be part of the annual check.

I am sure I have had the nurse in the past transfer mine to the appropriate one, but the last few times I have been given the container at the review previous to so I already have.Have you got one of those special collection pots? If not you’ll need to swing by the surgery and collect one if your practice is anything like mine - they refuse to take a sample in a random container (no matter how clean) it has to be in a proper pot - presumably to ensure the container hasn’t compromised the sample. 🙂

Possibly, but for specimens for infection, I have had to buy own bottle in Pharmacy. The bottle for yearly kidney is more like the size and shape of a blood test bottle/vial.Maybe it’s just my surgery then? I had one refused and had to come back with another one!
I’ve never been refused a bottle to provide a sample or been asked to buy one. Must come down to individual surgeries.
Ah, did you stick the label on the front of the pot? Ha ha.They hand out the ‘proper’ little sample pots at my surgery when you ask for one, but I had forgotten once and tried to use a random alternative... which they didn‘t accept 🙂
It has been happen here for a number of years.I’ve never been refused a bottle to provide a sample or been asked to buy one. Must come down to individual surgeries.
