Type 2
I've been recently diagnosed with Type 2. I am on Metformin at 1000mg a day, which may rise.

My doctors called and requested me to see the GP as my urine sample is abnormal and I will need to go onto medication. There are..

Urine protein/creatinine ratio.....17.7 mg/mmol.......Normal Range 0-14.....ABNORMAL
24 hour urine protein output.....0.18 g/24h......Normal Range 0 - 0.14.....ABNORMAL

I don't know what's going to happen to me. I am frightened. Does this mean my kidneys are packing in? Am I going to die?

Can anyone help with these readings? I asked the Dr's receptionist and she said I'd have to wait for my telephone appointment and discuss with with the GP

Thank you all.

These are just outside the normal range so don’t panic. Raised protein levels can be caused by lots of things, you may have an infection or have been dehydrated for example. Let the doctor repeat tests and see what’s going on.

Hi
Please don't worry - I'm sure you probably just need antibiotics to clear up an infection. If the surgery had been concerned you wouldn't be made to wait for an appointment. In the meantime, do drink plenty of water, in case it's just dehydration. I had much higher readings than you a few months ago, and the antibiotics cleared me up just fine - and as you can tell, I'm still here.

Stress and heavy exercise can also effect these levels. Try not to to worry, I know that’s easy to say xx

Hope you have found these responses reassuring @GrahamLinton

Do try not to worry unduly. As others have said, it will be worth keeping an eye on things and rechecking these results, plus keeping hydrated. Aiming for fairly stable and as in-range BGs as you can, and keeping your blood pressure within recommended targets are also known to help your kidneys stay healthy.

Let us know how things go, and what your Dr recommends.

Thank you, everyone. I will let you know what the Dr says. I've been heavily sweating now for months, nurse said it was a sign of diabetes so did a blood test which proved it. I've has 13 years of Chemo and Radio and a bone marrow transplant in the past so wonder if my kidneys have taken a bashing. I'm also on Pregabalin at the max dose and Methadone for pain as I have avascular necrosis in my neck of femur. Any of the tablets I am on could damage my organs I guess.

I will keep you posted.
