A new study at Mayo Clinic indicates high uric acid levels are associated with 20% increase of developing diabetes and more that 40% increased risk of kidney disease.
The diabetes support group at Hartselle Medical Center teaches patients how to deal with the disease.
Donna Townson thought she was dying when in the hospital at age 12. A diagnosis of diabetes let her know it was treatable. Since then there have been other challenges.
"Right now I'm waiting on a pancreas transplant. I had a kidney transplant 6 years ago and it's worked great," she said.
