You may remember that I posted just over two weeks ago about the optician saying that one of my eye pupils was sluggish and that one was bigger than the other.

I was reassured that if the hospital had thought it was urgent that they would have made an urgent appointment to see me. Well they did but they forgot to tell me about it!!!!!

The appointment would have been within two weeks of the referral.

I only found out because I received a letter today from them stating that I hadn't attended my appointment last Thursday and they will tell my GP....I hadn't been told about the appointment and now obviously worried about why it was classed as urgent. Fortunately seeing my decent eye consultant on Friday so hopefully she will be able to reassure me.

Thank you Grovesy

It’s so annoying when mess-ups like this happen. Good luck for Friday though.

They have probably got you muddled up with someone else. Personally I can not imagine you having two consultant apts within such a short space of time the later one would have been cancelled so someone else could have been seen.
Something as urgent as eyes (if it was urgent) then the hospital would have rung you to find out why you hadn't attended.
Surely the hospital also has a text reminder of apts? Even in the backwaters of Devon and Cornwall this system is in operation as it is at the GP surgeries.

So if you had no texts and your other apt wasn't cancelled then I would suspect there was no apt for you it was someone else and receptionist needs to test her eyes so she gets the right person. 🙂

Thank you Lucy and Sue. A lovely lady from the eye department just phoned me. Last week’s urgent appointment was for me. However it was cancelled because I’d arranged to see my normal eye consultant this Friday - which was the earliest date her secretary could fit me in. it made sense for me to see my normal consultant as she knows me and my eyes very well, apart from the retinal stuff which is dealt with by another consultant. They are both in the same NHS ophthalmology Department.

I’ve sometimes seen eye consultant two days apart - one for glaucoma and the other for retinal.

To be honest Sue I was so upset that they’d thought that I hadn’t turned up for an appointment that I didn’t even think about not having heard from the call reminder service.

Sorry to hear this news, its a worrying enough time without this kind of mess up being thrown into the mix! Hope it goes ok for you at your next appointment.

Thank you Tee G. I’m trying to be as positive as I can and hopefully it will be nothing to worry about.

A pity the cancellation didn't filter through to all departments! Hope Friday's appointment goes well.

Glad you got to the bottom of the confusion @AJLang.

I understand why they make a bit of a fuss over missed appointments because they are such a waste of effort in the NHS, but it does mean that sometimes innocent people get panicked!

What a palaver Amanda glad you got it sorted, I don`t think anyone on this forum would purposely miss an appointment, Friday is a good day for eye appointments.xx

Thank you everyone. The appointment is at 9.15 so not long to wait now. I’m trying to stay positive that there isn’t a problem and hope that my consultant thinks the same.

Good luck Amanda!

Thank you everyone. My consultant wasn’t worried about my pupils - she said that it’s as a result of all the surgery I’ve had and that they could be much wonkier than they are. She said that the new vision problems that I’ve developed are migraines which fits with all off the other weird things that these silent migraines do to me. Everything else was ok.

Sounds like a relief! Good stuff, Amanda.
