Hubby on norvomix 30and he's got a ups tum and dosent want to eat but insulin is due and don't want him to have a hyper again as he was in hospital only came out 2 weeks ago and blood sugars are quite stable yet getting there tho what should he do .

When I was on mixed insulin many years ago, I was told to substitute easy to eat foods like full sugar jelly, ice cream and full sugar yoghurt, even full sugar Coke. Could he eat any of those?

Because he’s on mixed insulin, he can’t not take it because it contains a segment to control his blood sugar overnight as well as a segment for his evening meal @Ibby

With a badly upset tummy, I usually sip Coke. If it’s just mildly upset, I’d try a yoghurt or jelly. If he becomes very ill eg vomiting, and obviously has a gastric bug, you’ll need to do extra blood tests and get medical input potentially if he can’t keep anything down.

Good that he’s eaten @Ibby but that’s a high blood sugar. Is it normally that high or is the bad tummy affecting it?

I think I’d phone for advice personally @Ibby as I remember your thread when he was in hospital.

Ok, so he was pretty much in his target range then for teatime. If that’s the case you might not need medical input. I’d assumed his blood sugar was usually lower.

As he’s feeling unwell with his tummy, I’d do extra blood tests just to make sure everything is going along as normal with his blood sugar and that it’s in the target ranges you’ve been given. You might also like to get some snack items ready in case he needs to eat later or even during the night. Again, if in any doubt or he becomes worse in himself, do call 111 for advice. Hopefully this will pass quickly and he’ll be feeling better tomorrow.

I’m hoping it’s only the sugar free sweets he had but only had a few of them as a treat for doing his exercises

It could be @Ibby I find some of them can upset your tummy in quite small quantities if you’re sensitive to the particular sweetening agent they contain.

I hope he’s feeling better tomorrow. I know you’ve both had a difficult time recently. XX

Thankyou tomorrow is another day and it can only get better .Baby steps

Glad your husband was able to take his insulin @Ibby

Are his Drs looking to review his doses at any time soon? Just wondering if some sort of a review might help bring those BGs down a little, as elevated levels can make you feel very lethargic and irritable.
