As you know I've just had another stroke and am staying with Helen so I don't have access to a computer. Helen has a tablet but it has a micro USB port so my question is how do I do this? Is it possible to buy a cable with two of the smaller usb parts? Will it work? Help!! Thank you.

I don't think you can due to having to use libreview to upload. I tried once but never worked and I no longer use libre to try again.

I was thinking I could access libreview on the tablet but maybe that's not possible. Thank you for your reply, its frustrating in this day and age isn't it.

I'm sure you can do that. It's a website, after all (I can view it fine on my iPad).

What you probably can't do is upload data from your FreeStyle Reader, since that'll require some other kind of software on your tablet, and Abbott only (as far as I know) supports Windows and macOS for that.

Ah that makes sense. Thank you.

I mostly use my phone (the phone apps automatically upload the data to LibreView), but when I was using the Reader more the LibreView website does let you upload data but you also need a driver which is Windows or Mac only.

(There's also a Windows and macOS application which lets you view the data, but as far as I could see that was unconnected with LibreView. Which confused me for a while when I was looking for a way to get the data into LibreView.)

Yes I’m sure that’s right. Libreview and the handset data are kept separately and can’t be merged.

That's a different question!

The question was whether you could upload from the Reader with some kind of tablet (which presumably doesn't run Windows). I'm pretty sure the answer is that you can't.

(It's possible (with a Windows or macOS computer) to upload data from the Reader to LibreView, and before I started using the phone app I did that. People have said that it's not such a good idea to try mixing the two too much (that is, feed LibreView either using your Reader (with a Windows or macOS computer) or the phone app but not both); I've also read somewhere that the problems were bugs that have since been fixed, but I've not been inclined to test that (I find the phone app preferable on the whole so I mostly use that, just using the Reader on occasion).)

When you access Libreview on a puter the first thing it wants you to do is download the driver - but you need the charging and download cable. Presumably Karen has that cable - else she can't charge her Reader.

Now - I did think that one could purchase a 'normal USB to micro USB' adapter? Yes, you can. Shedloads on Amazon etc, approx £5 ish.

The reported issue is the lack of a computer, not the cable. So if you have an unspecified kind of tablet (I guess some kind of Android tablet, or FireOS?) with a micro-USB socket (the same kind of socket the Reader has) what can you do?

I think you can't do anything. I'm not sure anyone makes micro-USB to micro-USB cables (since they'd be pretty much useless). You could construct one, probably (with a female micro-USB to female USB-A and some USB-A to micro-USB cables or something) but it still wouldn't help in this case. But even if you cobbled together that the software's not going to be available.

You can get a micro USB to female A USB cable (see pic) cheaply off Amazon.
Plug into your tablet, then plug usb devices into the other end. Memory sticks, usb keyboard and mice work on tablet using it. (Just attach like you would using a usb port on a computer). You can plug an ordinary usb cable into it.
Whether your device will talk to/work with the tablet is another issue!

Attach an usb to micro USB to get micro to micro.

Yes I agree. The software that allows download from the reader is not accessible on tablet or mobile OS - it needs to be a laptop, Mac or PC.

The cable connection is neither here nor there, because you can’t run the downloading software on a tablet or phone 🙂
