I spoke to my doctor today about the smaller needles (I'm getting 6mm ones) and and she told me she had got her copy of my letter to the consultant and has also written to her on my behalf. If I haven't heard something within two weeks I'll be writing to the trust next and working my way up the scale from there. The next one gets copied to my MSP as well.

6mm needles are the ones I use Alison, I dont even bother to pinch my skin up using them. I hope you soon get things sorted.

Hope you can make some rapid progress from here on in Alison. I've always used 6mm too and found them fine 🙂

[Confession]When I was diagnosed, one of the reasons they decided on T2 was my weight, 21stone 😱. Even at that I had lost 3 stone in the preceeding weeks before I collapsed. I've struggled to lose weight since, but have managed a grand total of 6 stone since dx, during which time I also gained 2. I gave up on dieting long ago because it never worked for me, I'd lose a bit then gain more back. [/Confession]

Since stopping the Gliclazide, I've managed to shed @ 1.5 stone per month, finally the weight is coming off and I've dropped two dress sizes since the start of December. I can see the difference when I look in the mirror and others have noticed too. Now, I eat whatever I want keeping the low GI, low fat, low salt thing in mind and just use portion control. It seems to be working. All I need now is some help from the clinic. The numbers seem to have stabilised and I'm running between 8.5 and 13.8, too high of course but no hypos and no bouncing.

Well - I always think if you can stabilise at any level (LOL) then you can always build (or rather, subtract) from there. Whilst you are see-sawing you haven't really got a sensible chance of getting a handle on whatever it is you could do with giving more attention to, have you?

Alison - I hope that you hear soon from the clinic and that things start to move forward for you.

In the meantime, while it's not ideal, remember that you don't have to push a longer needle all the way to the hilt! That way, an 8mm needle can effectively be a 6mm one.
