Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello all
I joined this forum back in January after being diagnosed with T2. I was diagnosed on December 31 with a Hba1c of 114. I weighed 15st 11oz and smoked 30 a day, had a very poor diet that mainly consisted of take way food and sweet food stuff. When i was given the diagnosis i was offered little advice apart from loose some weight and change the diet. Basic info really, so i searched the web and found this forum and started reading. I must admit i found it quite negative to start with, lots of people saying don't eat this or i can't eat that. So i done the research read everything i could find and set out to prove T2 is nothing to stress over. I started on a diet plan and for the first time in my adult life began to exercise. Quit smoking( not that hard really) and set my self a goal of getting my Hba1c below 90 by March( first test after 3 months). March Hba1c result came back at 44. Now i am no expert but even i know that is impressive, it gave me such a boost and i was determined to get below 40 for my next test in July. Well i have just received my results and i have a Hba1c of 32. I weigh 11st 10 0z can run 5k at a quick pace and fit a 34" waist trousers:D. The reason for this post isnt to gloat but to let people know that this condition can be controlled if you put the effort in. Don't dwell on the negatives of some on these types of forums if i can achieve these results then anybody can. I have spent my whole adult life making excuses for being over weight or poor diet and i have realized this over the last 6 months. This has not been an easy journey and i know i am not at the end but i am well on my way and probably the happiest in my self i have felt for a very long time.

@Binfield, fantastic results! Well done!!!

What a great turnaround @Binfield! Congratulations on all your brilliant results.

Hi and thanks for updating us on your fantastic progress. Many congratulations. I am sorry that you found some of the comments on the forum unhelpful and negative but pleased that you have come back to give inspiration to others. I am just getting back into exercise and it does have a huge impact on my diabetes management and the amount of insulin I need as well as making me feel better physically and mentally.
I wish you well in your journey with your new healthy lifestyle.

Fantastic results @Binfield (is your name anything to do with the "village" on the outskirts of Bracknell?).

It's great to see that amazing results are possible.
I don't want to be the negative voice in the crowd (maybe one of those you mentioned when you first joined) but to encourage others not to give up, I want to mention that for some this condition can be managed but it is harder to control and some times it is harder than others - diabetes is not the only thing that is going on in our lives and diabetes is different for each of us.
For everyone, I would say, life is worth putting in the effort to manage diabetes but don't feel down if you don't see the same amazing results that Binfield has achieved.
I just know that some times it is harder for some people than others and it's not because they don't want to manage their condition or that they aren't putting in the effort.

Sorry Binfield - I did not want to distract form your fantastic achievement

That is a fantastic achievement, I bet you never thought you could do it to start with but it just shows what a change of lifestyle can achieve.
Exercise obviously had a big part to play but if you are willing to share some of the foods and meals which you adopted it may give some inspiration to others who are struggling to know what to eat.
I hope your dietary regime is something which you enjoy enough to maintain.

I just want to echo the congratulations above! What a great result! Keep up the good fight and well done!

Well done on your fantastic achievement @Binfield

Really pleased you found strategies that worked so well for you and have made such profound and positive changes.

Great to hear that you feel so much happier in yourself too.

I’m sure your story will inspire others! 🙂
