Hello all.

A strange post I know, I've been doing a stock check of all my medication & I have the following which have been wrongly given to me. I'd rather let others have them than take them to the chemist to be destroyed.

Needles

BD microfine 4mm
BD microfine 5mm

Lancets

Glucoject

If anyone wants them, let me know

Hope you find a home for them. Sometimes charities will take them, perhaps someone here can suggest one

Me too. I would try & use the 5mm but I've always used 8mm so wouldn't feel confident that the insulin had got into my system

Blimey, you use 8mm??? Didn't think anyone did these days! My lad was started on 5mm on day one, but on second day DSN spent day in hospital with us and put him straight on 4mm. Have never used anything else. We have some 8mm in our hospital supplied kit but they look massive compared to the 4mm! Maybe you should give them a try sometime?

Yup have done for just short of 10 years, I originally was on 2 shots of insulin a day via syringes (glad I don't have to use them anymore!!)

I am thinkin of using 5mm for my glargine but worried about the needle not getting through the fat as well as 8mm.
I'm off this week so might try it but I'm sure force of habit will make me go back to 8mm

There's a school of thought that shorter needles are better at getting into the right layer of skin, even when there is fat, can't even remember where I read it.

I can't believe you use 8mm! I got a box by accident once and they are huuuuge!

I have to use 4mm for my Levemir (sometimes 5mm) and 5mm the rest of the time, the 5mm with Levemir leaves me bruises on my thighs though hence trying 4mm which are much better.

And btw, my thighs are FAR from being slender and lean lol! The insulin absorbs and does it's thing just fine....

I tried 5mm for my glargine last night & this morning.
I looked at needle length between the 2 & thought jesus. I didn't bleed using the 5mm tho

You think 8mm look huge?

Try a 12.7mm one. I have a box of these for emergency corrections ie. doing intramuscular injections.

I actually find injecting with these much more 'satisfying' although I'd only ever use them for IM shots or in my butt cheeks - I think if I used them for a stomach shot I'd nick a kidney!

Holy hell! 12.7mm??? *faints*

I remember getting my first box of 8mm after always (well, in memory at least & as a child) being on 12.7 mm pen & syringe needles & thinking, wow, dinky! :D I think I'll have to ask the gp about changing my emergency script to 5 or 4 mm needles. I've just switched to 6mm pump cannulas from 8 mm & find those loads better too...it's all good! 🙂

I've just found one of my syringes from when I was on 2 injections, it's huge but I dunno the length.
If I'm honest I hadn't thought needle size for when I start on the pump so possibly all change again!
