Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi just wanted some advice. Last week I called my gp after feeling yuk for months. They did a hb1c test and it's come back as 7% and they rang me to go in next week to have test done again. That's all they have said. Is this type 2 diabetes do you think

7% converts to around 53. 48 (6.5%) is the cut off for diabetes so you are just over the line

Feeling Yuk can you tell us how symptoms of Yuk is for you.

yes... waking in night dripping with sweat(finished the menopause years ago) A hot face and feeling sick that comes and goes. Peeing all the time. I'm surprised by my HbA1c test of 7% as looking back on my records of the same test last year it was only 5.6

This will put you in the diabetes zone but not too far, so you should be able to bring things back. Certain things may have caused the increase, stress, COVID and change in diet. It is very easy to become complacent and gradually increase carbohydrates which will push up your levels as they all convert to glucose. Those symptoms you describe are typical of high blood glucose but could be other things as well so hopefully you will have blood tests for a wider screening of conditions.
Keeping a food diary of everything you eat and drink will help to identify any foods of concern and help to see where you can make savings if you get the diagnosis confirmed.

Thankyou. Yes Im on Mood stablelizers which apparently can cause diabetes which in turn have caused weight gain. Bit of a vicious circle in this sense tho for losing weight. I didnt have a weight problem 3 years ago before I started these meds.

it's not a really high reading you should be able to control if you follow diet advice my HbA1c test was 125 off the scales but I have got control so please don't get too stressed about it.

Your not on Mirtazapine by any chance are you.
