“The relationship between COVID-19 and diabetes is very complex,” says Francesco Rubino, chair of metabolic and bariatric surgery at King’s College London, “and it might involve more than one issue.”

It's an interesting article.
I haven't seen any news on this before.

Well, it is interesting I suppose. But many T1s can recall a viral illness before their diabetes raised its ugly head. That link has been known about for years, but nobody has been bothered to look at the fine details of the association.

There is a growing tendency to characterise this coronavirus as something new or terrible in its consequences. Post viral fatigue? Known for years. Loss of sense of smell? Yawn.

It’s a virus. It does what viruses do, and are known to do. 8% of the human genome is clearly of viral origin long in the past. COVID-19 is just a newcomer in this endless parade. Same old, same old.
