Started taking sukkarto Sr last week 1 two times a day and then upped yesterday to 2 two times a day
Suffered some very unpleasant side effects overnight does anyone know how long these might last ?
At a works conference early next week so hoping it might improve by then ?x

Google says Sukkarto is another name for Metformin, the most commonly used medication for Type 2. Diarrhoea and cramps are a very common side effect. People have reported it takes a couple of weeks for the symptoms to subside. In some cases they don't and people have then asked for the slow release version.. The best thing you can do to help yourself is to have them in the middle of a meal - eat half, take the pill, eat the rest.

I'm on the slow release version . was fine with just the two per day .......ah well it will be an interesting few days then .will try taking them half way through instead of after food and see what happens.
Thank you so much x

Hello @Hexchen
Sorry to hear that you are getting the side effects. The SR means that you do have the slow release version.
as @Felinia says make sure you take them during a meal, and take them as early as you can in the evening.
Unfortunately many people have this problem, so if it persists you may need to get the doctor to change to different medication.

get rid of it and ask for your usual metformin. it has a shellac coating which if like me it has a very bad reaction in the toilet department, infact in 4 days i lost 13 pounds. only found out after googling about the coating

Sorry that you are experiencing side effects. If they don't go or subside speak to your health care team who can suggest other medications.

Just a thought. What was your latest HbA1c, or have you just been diagnosed? My level on diagnosis was 57, and I was encouraged to get my level down with diet and exercise alone, which I did successfully to 48. My GP told me that they encourage people to do this if the level is below 60. But I have read other posts here where as soon as someone reached 48 they were put on medication.

😱 sorry to hear this.

Just one tablet a day of the ordinary Metformin made me very ill. Although my Hba1c was 91 at diagnosis I was no longer diabetic at the second test even though I threw away the tablets after about a month of terrible side effects.
I don't know if I got any benefit from that time, other than the thought of being pushed to take them again if my results got worse ensuring that I am not tempted to eat carbs at all.
