Two gripes. Just had yet another hypo - not a bad one, 3.4, but I thought I'd pinned down the dose I needed for lunch today and obviously the goalposts have been moved yet again. It's my second hypo of the day and I've lost count of how many I've had over the past week* including a couple of night ones and several close shaves. I've lowered my basal and it seems to be about right as I'm waking in the 5s currently, but my meal ratios just keep changing. Yesterday for lunch I had 7 units novorapid but hypoed at about 3 hours, so today - same lunch - I had 6 units, still hypoed at 3 hours, which suggests I should really have had 5 units. A couple of weeks ago I would have had around 11-12 units and although some of it could be due to using fresh injection sites you would think that a 50% reduction in dose would do the trick! Obviously not. 🙄

So, I decided to have a dark chocolate kitkat, very nice it was too. However, the carbs are shown per 100g, but it doesn't tell you how much each bar weighs! I had to go ad weigh it and worked out that it is around 12g carbs. Think I will email Nestl? and point out the problem!

*just counted and I have had 25 hypos in the past week, lowest 2.2. :(

aaaaaah - candidature for a pump methinks?

Hi Alan I'm really sorry to hear that you're having so many hypos. I hope that they sort themselves out soon

No chance of that for me unfortunately :( It's probably my own fault for not being bold enough in reducing doses because of my semi-subconscious horror of above-range numbers. I've been running a lot lately which is obviously having a big effect, but in the past it's never been as pronounced as it is at the moment. At this rate I'm going to be needing a half-unit pen for both insulins and I don't have one for either! 😱

All the hypos, although mostly mild ones, have definitely made my brain a bit fuzzy and hard to concentrate. Think I will have to embrace the fear and go for bigger dose reductions, and try not to get stressed if I get high numbers.

p.s. Thanks Amanda 🙂

Sorry to hear you've been going through the mill too Alan :( Must be something in the air!

I had just the same with Sainsbury's new 'ready meal' packaging whewn we had a treat a few weekends back. It had carbs listed per 100g and some things like fat content listed per portion...

In the end I had to work out the relationship between fat/100g and fat/portion to apply it to the carbs/100g. Very annoying and a calculator was essential!

Maybe someone has a spare half unit pen they could bring to Brighton for you?

25 in a week is crazy. I hope they stop soon and you get things back on track soon!

I have learnt to trust my judgement if i think the packet cho is wrong, too many errors in the past.

If i think its not right i adjust accordingly, difficult i know if its not something you are used to, but i feel your frustration 😡

too many hypos Alan! Bite the bullet an lower those doses, 🙂

Thanks folks 🙂 You get an idea of how bad it's been when you see that my 14 day average is 5.2, and that includes all my post-meal tests too, some of which have been in double figures.

Thats a lot of hypos Alan , dose reduction on cards do you think ? 🙂

That's the problem Jenny - I've been reducing to what seem like silly levels and it's still not enough! I knew I should have eaten more than 600 cals for the past 8 weeks, flippin' pancreas is working again! 😉

Northerner just face it - you're cured.............which means that we can do anything we want on this site because you can't tell us off anymore😛 which means we can party:D....unless we let you become an honorary non-diabetic member:D

Do I have to hand in my pens? 😱 What if it comes back?

You have to surrender all medication plus your pens and testing machines:D After doing that you can write your book about your miracle cure, make millions and throw a massive party for all of us:D Then whilst you're waiting to see if the diabetes comes back you can write a follow-up best seller called "Revenge of the Big D" written as a suspense thriller - so we won't know until the end if it did ever return🙄

and, of course, you have to turn the books into mega selling films and take all of use to each and everyone of the global premieres:D This is beginning to sound like a good idea!

I'll have to think of something ludicrous, but with a tiny element of plausibility and disguise it in lots of mysticism, ancient remedies and pseudo-science. I think it might involve rhubarb...😉

Please stop making me laugh when I'm meant to be working!!!

I'm failing at being on holiday or working because you keep distracting me:D Two more quick bits of work to do, then I will switch off the computer and pour myself a nice ice cold glass of wine to start the holiday:D On a serous note Alan I really hope that you don't have any more of those hypos, or at least a few days rest from them

I think i will have to try the 600 cals idea what shall we call it the Northerner diet :D

Rhubarb eh? Spoken like a true Northener. As we all know that's where the best Rhubarb comes from. :DXXXXX
