Unexplained increase in blood sugar

Not a regular poster but I’ve a sugar concern and wonder if anyone can suggest.

Type 2 for circa 8 years and have managed by lower carbs and exercise fine.

2 weeks ago blood sugar was fine. This week it’s rocketed. Lately I’ve been slowly losing weight with a bit more control. 0 .5-1 lb a week.

Yesterday after 3 hours after usual low carb it was 11.8 - then 13.5 after not eating 2 hours.

Today egg breakfast walk 8.6. 8 hours of fasting and 45 min walk and it’s up to 9.1!

I can’t understand why with, if anything losing 6 pounds in weight it’s jumped so high in a week.

Any thoughts I’d be so grateful ☺️

There is usually some explanation, dodgy strips, something on your fingers, being dehydrated, having an infection, or being unwell in some way.
Keep a good note of your carbs in the meal / food you are and make sure you drink plenty and test before you eat and after 2 hours you will get a good idea if it is the food. If your reading is way off what you expect then I would suspect your monitor (may need a new battery) or the strips (are they in date).

Thank you. I used strips a week ago but have new batch on order. I was shocked having lost nearly half a stone and I do feel reassured by what you’ve said. So appreciate your reply very much. I usually do prior to food and 2 hours post. I checked my elderly mothers and by way of making her feel more comfortable I took my machine along too.

I’ll sleep well tonight….thanks again ☺️

Just thinking out loud..
Perhaps if you are stressed, its a very big issue that Diabetics forgetto include.
Or any medical issue like an infection, high temperature etc

Have you had your covid and or flu jab recently?
Vaccines can temporarily affect BG.

Nice to see you posting again @Sally W 🙂

Glad you found the replies reassuring. Hope the new strips offer you some more familiar and expected results when they arrive.

Yes! I had double covid and flu and I think that could have played a part. Thanks for the suggestion ☺️

Hi. Can I ask if you are trying to lose weight or was this unintentional?
It was intentional. I can see why you’re asking as I know it can be a sign of mismanaged levels. Thank you for suggesting

Hi Mike. Hope you are well! Yes new strips are much better now so it’s very reassuring. I think jabs may have played a part too. Glad to see forum is so supportive, as ever.

Yes I did have flu & covid jabs so could have been a reaction to that. Thankfully, now back within normal range and have new batch of strips too. I appreciate the thought. So many things can affect.☺️
