Undercover 'fat police' to probe Salford takeways over obesity crisis

Undercover investigators are testing the fat levels in takeaway food in a bid to tackle soaring obesity. Mystery shopper inspectors are checking what really goes into Salford?s curries, pizzas, kebabs and burgers. The probe, paid for by a ?60,000 grant from the NHS, will see dozens of takeaways visited to reveal the amounts of salt, fat, nuts and additives in their food. Town hall officers are also checking whether the meat used really is as billed. Takeaway owners who fall below standards set by the council could be forced to go on healthy cooking courses.
