The University of Mississippi Medical Center?s transplant team has achieved a first: Transplanting both a kidney and pancreas into a 49-year-old diabetes patient.
The hospital isn?t revealing the name of the man who received the transplant Dec. 5, but only is saying that he?s coped with Type 1 diabetes since childhood, which resulted in his kidneys failing. Even so, his doctors said he took very good care of himself, making him a good candidate for transplant.

First time for this hospital, presumably, not the first time this operation has been performed.
