A railway ticket office worker has died of coronavirus after being spat at while on duty.

Belly Mujinga, 47, was on the concourse of Victoria station in south-west London in March when a member of the public who said he had Covid-19 spat and coughed at her and a colleague. Within days of the assault, both women fell ill with the virus.

Mujinga, who had underlying respiratory problems, was admitted to Barnet hospital and put on a ventilator but died on 5 April, the TSSA union said.

The union has reported the incident to the Railways Inspectorate, the safety arm of the Office for Road and Rail, for investigation and is taking legal advice on the situation.

Just awful :( Despicable behaviour :(

That is shockingly awful - I despair of some people at times.

Would be scumy thing to do if the idiot hadn't had C19. I believe, in USA, trying to infect someone with something you have has been made a specific crime.
Reminds me. It's one thing risking getting infected yourself. Another requiring another to do so. There is an expectation that some transport continue (so those who do need to go to work can, moving goods around etc). If there was no food in supermarkets that'd be an issue. So, are train staff required to turn up and deal with the public, and put themselves at risk? (eccential worker!) :(

But we - and the flippin Government - have to realise that this IS the society we all have to live in today! 😡

I think this has just been on the news, got nine months. I'd lock him up and throw away the key. :(

I think that might have been a different case @Ditto?

As far as I understood, they haven’t found the man who spat on this lady and her colleague yet. I hope when they do, her death is taken into account in what he’s charged with.
