Over-75s and people with suppressed immune systems in the UK are to be offered another Covid-19 booster vaccination in the coming weeks to increase potentially waning protection, after advice from the government’s vaccines watchdog.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has formally advised a rollout of an additional booster this spring for groups of people deemed most vulnerable to severe coronavirus.

The recommendation is that additional boosters should be offered to people aged 75 or over, and residents in older people’s care homes, and anyone aged 12 or above who is immunosuppressed.

The announcement came just before Boris Johnson’s formal unveiling of plans to abolish all domestic coronavirus restrictions across England, including an end to mandatory self-isolation. A decision on the precise plan was delayed at the last minute amid tensions between the chancellor, Rishi Sunak, and the health secretary, Sajid Javid, over funds for free Covid-19 testing.

Additional groups regarded as being at greater risk of severe coronavirus are also likely to be offered a further booster jab this autumn, before an expected rise in infections over next winter, the JCVI added.

Talk today that it’ll be 50+ who are offered boosters in winter.
Anyone would think the government are making this up as they go.

It'll all change again.
The rest of the world seems to be accepting covid passports for only six months, so everyone will need a booster by summer, or no one will be going anywhere for the holidays.
(Or Boris is planning to sell them through his mates like he did over the fit to fly tests)

I’m a bit confused about all this. I’ve had my fourth jab as I’m immunosuppressed. Am I to receive a fifth one? I can’t find any clarification. Suppose I’ll just wait for the text inviting me for it. As usual things are as clear as mud! :(

The wording in the U.K. Gov Press release is 'an extra spring dose is advised around 6 months after the last vaccine dose' so presumably you’ll get one 6 months after your last, whether it was a booster or a full dose.

My third dose was Sept 2021, fourth just last month. So about June then? Maybe?
I’ll be like a blooming pincushion! Since April 2020, I’ve had four Covid vaccinations, pneumonia jab and two flu jabs! At least I’ve got another three years before another pneumonia one!

Why two flu jabs, was one very late?

No. One Nov 2020 and one Sept 2021. It’s almost two years since the pandemic started! Time flies!

Had 4th about 6 weeks back so this will be number 5, not fussed as only had 1 reaction so far & that was short lived.

I had my worst reaction with the very first, AZ, which was just a terrible headache and achy for 24 hours. Had Pfizer for third and Moderna for fourth. No problems at all.

Think it was 2nd with me which was AZ, same symptoms as you & only lasted day, Pfizer for 3 & 4 didnt even have sore arm.

It sounds like those of us with just diabetes not immunosuppressed wouldn’t get the extra jab?

Yes, it does sound like that. Though I've also heard there might be another dose later this year for everyone over 50 (which might well include all CV people), presumably at least 6 months after their last dose.
