The government has ordered an urgent review of the potential ability of vitamin D to reduce the risk of coronavirus.

It comes amid growing concern over the disproportionate number of black, Asian and minority ethnic people contracting and dying from the disease, including a reported 94% of all doctors killed by the virus.

A delayed Public Health England review into the reasons why BAME people are disproportionately affected which pointed to historical racism was said not to have yet reviewed the role of diet and vitamin D.

The Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) was ordered to do this work last month and consider recent evidence on vitamin D and acute respiratory tract infection in the general population.

Hi Northerner,
I was looking at this a few days ago. The thing that confuses me is that you'd expect people in sunny areas to have lower cases of covid deaths as they should have more vitamin d from sunshine conversion. This doesn't seem to be the case. What do you think?

I suppose there are too many factors that determine the death rates, and this would only be one of them

@Amity Island - but melatonin stops you making as much Vit D as a fair skinned person and even for us pale creatures, this far north of the equator and with all the air pollution normally about, we need a considerable amount of strong sunshine on our upper torso to make enough to last us the winter. I'm a flippin naturist and used to spend a considerable amount of time every week completely nekkid from April-October but by November my stocks were already low. This year it's particularly dire as we haven't been able to go anywhere to take enough clothes off since last autumn!

vitimin D
Given to me since my kidney transplant 2006 on presciption

Hi,
I just bought my first pack 3 days ago. D3. I'll be taking one everyday at least until lockdown is fully lifted. No harm in trying it out. Lol

Thanks.
That explains everything! Ha ha.
Here's me looking at world sunshine maps seeing if there is any correlation between sunshine and covid deaths.
That said, some of the warmer southern countries do have way less cases, Africa, India, south America. Who knows why that is.

I take a vit d supplement daily, it's recommended for people who work nights.
