Type 3c weight loss

Hi, I am a type 3c diabetic and I’m having trouble trying to loose weight. I am wondering is it possible for a type 3c diabetic to use weight losing drugs like Mounjaro.
Regards
Alan

Hello @Alan W. I think the first useful step is to ask you to update us on what treatment you are now receiving for your T3c diabetes. When you introduced yourself to the Forum back in March '22, you were then being treated as T2, despite having considerable damage to your pancreas. Then, I think, you were still under your GP and not getting guidance or direction from a Hospital based Consultant. Has your weight increase occurred since Mar '22?

To be honest, when I joined this forum I didn’t have much knowledge of diabetes especially when everyone tends to talk about type and 2. It was only September 2022 I had my gallbladder removed that my diabetic consultant mentioned that I am type 3c. I now take insulin once a day, Lantus. Since taking insulin I’ve put on maybe 18lbs. I try and keep to a low card diet, lose a few lbs but then seem to hit a wall. So heard various things about the weight losing drugs and wondered if it would suit me.

Do you have a CGM, such as Libre 2 ( 2+); possibly not eligible. What has your HBA1C been like since Sep '22?

There is a perception, not necessarily correct, that taking insulin causes weight increase. People often deliberately eat more carbs than they need, fearing they might otherwise go hypo. Could this possibly be your scenario? Presumably you have a fixed lantus dose. Have you tried a modest reduction of Lantus in conjunction with less carbs? Do you formally carb count, or do you practice your best guess at lower carb opportunities? Has your former level of exercise and activity reduced since your pancreatic and gall bladder problems?

I don't know much about the suitability of weight losing drugs in parallel with basal (lantus in your case) insulin. There will be others who have encountered this. Tagging @goodybags. My instinct is weight control is best managed by diet control, unless there is a specific medical condition that means further medication is necessary. But I could be wrong.
