Type 3c
Hi everyone, I hope everything is fine and dandy. This afternoon, I had a phone call from my diabetes care nurse. She has confirmed I indeed have type 3c diabetes and that she is very pleased with my most recent data from my Libre app. I have managed to keep BG level averaging 8.4 this past week. I also don't have to take gliclazide which is a relief. I am so pleased with my progress, which considering my present condition is very good news.

Really pleased to hear that you've now got a positive diagnosis and can now move onto the correct management plan. Well done on how you've managed things so far.

Thank you Martin

Evening and so glad you have the diagnosis and are doing so well.
How did your first week at the garden centre go and trust you are in a much better place than you were a few weeks ago.
Have a nice w/ end
Yes thank you Wendal, I'm so pleased I now know more. I'm in better control now and can enjoy life more without worrying about it and move forward confidently. The forum has helped me so much and I'm most grateful! 🙂

So good that you have your correct diagnosis now @Busdriver60
New diagnosis, new job, … you are on a roll.

Yes, now I can stop worrying and move on and no more finger prick testing!

Well you can certainly move forward with this confirmatory diagnosis; some stress from the uncertainty is reduced (removed). Personally I'm bemused if not completely amazed that your diagnosis was ever in doubt. If you weren't T3c because of known damage to your Pancreas after pancreatitis and surgery ..... then what on earth did any D Specialist imagine your diagnosis could otherwise be? Certainly not T1 from an autoimmune condition and how anyone could reconcile with giving you a T2 diagnosis defeats me. Your current basal insulin doses are way too low to indicate you have excessive insulin resistance.

Anyway it is reassuring news. But (sorry to include a but) you can't rely solely on your Libre for reliable BG info when either low (close to 4) or high. There are times when CGM is unreliable; and these days when Libre in particular seems to stop transmitting data at all it immediately is unfit for purpose. You are still insulin dependent and you are obliged by law to carry test meter capability whenever you are driving your car. So if finger pricking is still bothering you in conjunction with either your needle phobia or its too painful, then the methodology needs more explanation and training; and perhaps the lance device itself needs replacing with something different. Finger pricking does not have to be painful. A faff - yes; painful - no.

Hello from another new T3c
Also as a result of pancreatitis!

Quick question and sorry if i’m hijacking your post - i have my libre on now, should I still be doing some finger pricks (other than when I have very high/lows)?

My DSN had to rearrange my appointment becsuse of an emergency, and I missed the first one because I was back in hosi, so have a million questions for her!

That's ok. How long have you had type 3c?
It all depends on what your care nurse says. Everyone is different and how your body reacts. My best suggestion would be to ask her. Sorry I can't be much of help to you. We're both in the 1% group, all the other type 1 and 2!

I usually check a few times over the first 24 hours of a new sensor. If it's pretty accurate I then just check if Libre results don't match how I feel/hypo. If it's not as accurate I check more often so that I'm confident to dose for meals or corrections.

My necrotic pancreatitis kicked off 9 weeks ago, and I think I started on insulin about the second week.
I have an NJ tube feed and I was spiking in the 20’s through the feed.

They thought the D could be a temp thing, but no signs of that ad yet.
I seem to be fairly stable now on the feed, but i’m just struggling with oral intake of food

Oh your body reacted much quicker than mine. I know you're going through now. It's not pleasant but you will get through it. I became diabetic only about 10 weeks ago, after contracting pancreatitis about 12 months before that. So everyone's case is very different. I sure you will make a full recovery soon. All the best for you JBB70!

And we're also in the 1% group, even my care nurse and GP are still learning about it.....my goodness!!

Yes ok I understand about the finger pricking test but I'm sure I'll get over as much I dislike it. I fully understand.

Good to hear you have your diagnosis confirmed @Busdriver60

Hope it gives you access to the most appropriate treatment options, education courses, and tech to help you manage your glucose levels effectively 🙂

I still finger prick for highs and lows as you are doing. As many people have said the libre is a useful guide but not always accurate. I've also found it over emphasises downward or upward trends which lead me to have too many carbs to compensate or too much insulin which starts the circle again.

And as Soupdragon says its can give an indication of how a new sensor is working. My current one is probably the most erratic I've had yet so there's been a lot more FP tests than usual as it will swing from 7 to 5 and back again quite quickly.
