I think it’s worth taking all these predictions of doom with a pinch of salt, but it is also worth bearing them in mind as to the seriousness of the potential consequences of diabetes.
Diabetes is such a peculiar condition because the day to day management is often mundane, and a few errant readings here or there will almost certainly make no long-term difference (yay ice cream!)
but...
The potential long term, or even medium term consequences of regularly errant BG levels can be devastating.
But these mostly don’t manifest immediately, they are an accumulation of weeks, and months and years of glucose variation.
So we end up pouring all this effort in to making the right decisions, and keeping BG in target as much as we can so that nothing happens... So that things that we are potentially at increased risk of don‘t occur.
Hard to tell when something that isn’t certain to happen isn't happening because of what you are doing, or just isn’t happening eh?
But the most important thing, I think, is to keep going. Not to lose hope, and certainly not to feel that all this stuff will happen anyway, so what’s the point.
We may have a few dodgy cards in our hand, but that doesn’t mean we can’t play the hand well, and still come out winning 🙂
