Evening all I have been type 2 for 10 years my control isn't great and recent readings have been averaging 9.7 I drive for a living and it's looking likely if I can't improve I may end up on insulin which would have a devastating effect on my ability to do my job .So I'm about to start regular running .Eating is an issue as I don't eat veg so any suggestions or help would be great full received

Welcome to the forum Brian Davitt. You're right that using insulin would affect your rights to drive anything bigger than a car. If you're trying to reduce your carbohydrate intake, then you need to consider things like bread, rice, pasta, root vegetables etc. Are there any veggies you can tolerate? Running is a great idea. Many of us take part in parkruns, which are free timed 5km runs every Saturday morning. I will miss it this weekend, for Keswick to Barrow walk / run - a bit longer at 42.75 miles.

Welcome to the forum Brian

What have you been eating in the past and what changes can and will you make to get those numbers down is the question so you don't have to go on insulin.
Running is a start but have you done any in the past as you'll be better taking it slowly so you don't injure yourself.
You say you don't eat veg. What veg do you like as that can be a hindrance to you achieving your goals sadly if you say none.
I say good luck

What does a normal day's meals look like? Perhaps we can think of some swops to help.

Brian - I defy you never to find a vegetable that you do like, bearing in mind the 100s of actual different ones there are!

Salsify- bet you've never tried it. Samphire - ditto. Etc ! LOL

Steph's question is the place to start - it's amazing what substitutes there are, and how easy it is to disguise all sorts of things to stop them tasting of what they really are!

It's amazing how your tastes can change
I sometimes find myself craving cabbage

Hi Brian, welcome to the forum, you will be able to do this with the support and chat on here, it's fantastic!
I don't do running (yet) but I've added a 45 minute walk after dinner most evenings and I honestly think it's helping me manage my glucose as well as weight. My job is fairly sedentary at a desk so I've got to make some time to get out there. I also go swimming several times a week which I think helps too.

As others have said about vegetables it's easy to add them into things like bolognese , stir frys , etc. I never used to like salads but through experiment I have salad every day !

Hi Brian - welcome to our friendly & supportive forum - as said above - cut out the carbs ie white bread pasta rice root veggies. Bergen Soya & Linseed bread is a popular alternative to white bread for many folk on here - as are protein rolls.

Can you not eat or tolerate any veggies at all? I mean cauliflower can be disguised as a substitute for potatoes - particularly tasty when mashed with cheese & butter then browned to a crisp under the grill - and broccoli is a healthy option too - even mashed with cauliflower and/or with cheese & onion even to disguise the taste of the veggies. Smaller portion size meals are recommended which will be of great benefit to you too - I serve most of my meals on a side plate.

Have a look at the thread 'What did you eat yesterday' - you'll be spoilt for choice there as you read what meals we have concocted :D So far as exercisie is concerned then swimming 2 or 3 times a week as per @Jangles above has recommended. Personally I would suggest walking as opposed to running to begin with. Good luck & take care.
