Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi I was diagnosed as T2 approx 2 years ago but to be honest I did not really take it in or any of the issues relating to it as they were not concerned. I proceeded to gain weight - 15stone 10lbs at 5 foot 1 inch. Anyway it was only about 9 months ago a brilliant nurse told me the whole 'story'. I was very shocked and upset that I did not understand the seriousness of it. (possibly not dealing with the issue) Anyway my HBc1 was 97 she wanted to put me on tablets and I said no please let me try, she did and it came down. She then felt it would not come down much more, discussing resistance etc. I really wanted to give it another go and this was over the Christmas period , when I went for my 3 month review I am down to 49.(I know this is still diabetic) She was very pleased (me too) and I have lost three and a half stone in the process. So I have skipped the tablets for now ! I will continue with the Michael Mosley diet as it is definitely working for me.

What a fantastic achievement! Many congratulations. I know it will not have been easy, particularly over the festive season, so you have every right to be really proud of yourself.
Such a shame that you weren't given all the information in the first place but I think it can be a fine line for health care professionals between frightening people into action and and encouraging them or just getting ground down by the many people just don't want to take responsibility and happily go away and take the tablets assuming that will sort it It is also possible that your HbA1c at diagnosis wasn't very high so there was less concern about your diabetes at that time.

Whatever the reason, you have just proved that the second nurse found the right approach to get through to you and motivate you to turn things around and kudos to you for negotiating to be given time to do that without medication and to the nurse for allowing you to. At 97 you were in dangerous territory and many Health Care Professionals would have insisted on medication at that level.

Good luck with perhaps dropping it a little further into the normal zone but don't be too despondent if you don't manage it. Not everybody can, so do focus on the HUGE improvement you have made at least maintaining that amazing progress.

Hi @Annod W and welcome to the forum.
I'm a little concerned about you mentioning you are continuing a Michael Moseley diet. SO far as I'm aware all his diets are based around the aim of just 800 Calories per day. All such diets are known as crash diets or very Low Calorie diets and are only safe for a maximum period of up to 8 to 12 weeks.

If this is the case with the diet you are on, then I suggest you transition to a Low Carb but higher calories way of eating, aiming for weight maintenance. A low carb or even Keto way of eating is a very good way of reducing Blood Glucose and HbA1C and can be followed for the rest of your life should you wish/need.

Hi @ianf0ster - Michael Mosley recommends (page 23 - What do I do when I have achieved my goals?) doing 1600 calories after you've finished the 8 week 800 calories part of the Blood Sugar Diet, and suggests continuing to use the recipes in the book, but with increased quantities. Hopefully has followed MM's advice, I agree with you, it's not a good idea to stay on 800 calories for too long.
Cheers, Sarah
