Hi - last week or so, experiencing tingling, pins and needles in feet and waking up with numb hands most mornings.
Diagnosed last July with Type 2 Diabetes - on Metformin 500mg twice a day, eat low carb, walk several miles a day and my BG levels are well controlled. My last 2 HbA1c tests were 6.5 and 6.2. It was my understanding I should have a foot check but my GP surgery are not doing them - just sent me some diagrams to do this myself. Have read some articles that suggests it could be the metformin causing the problems in my feet and hands. Has anyone else experienced this?

If It's the met, then it's normally associated with lack of Vit B12, so perhaps ask your GP for a blood test.
Hope you are soon sorted.

I was getting this in my arms when on 2000mg Metformin but have now cut to 1000mg after blood sugars controlled and must say i haven't had lately. I don't know if thats a coincidence or not. My last B12 levels were fine but maybe worth getting checked if you haven't been checked out lately like @Pumper_Sue suggests.

Sorry to hear about the unpleasant symptoms you have been experiencing @Lorilo - and that your GP isn’t currently able to offer the follow up appointments that you might usually get :(

I was seeing something on the TV this morning about the flood of appointments now being requested as lockdown begins to lift.

Your most recent HbA1c look in good shape, but I can completely understand how concerning these changes in sensation must be.

Do the self-check diagrams make sense? Is there someone else who might be able to do them with you or for you?

If you continue to be worried, perhaps you should consider calling NHS 111?

I certainly wouldn't leave this any longer without either a call to your GP or NHS24 or whatever it's called these days.
You want this looked into before any damage becomes permanent.
