Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi
I was diagonised type 2 in January 2011. I was put on metformin which made no difference to my bs. I went on a corse at my local hospital for type 2 diabetics everyone except me was over weight, at the end the nurse asked me to stay behind, she asked what medication I was on and suggested that I might have been misdiagonised. Luckily for me the diabetic nurse at my surgery retired and we got a new nurse, she put me on insulin straight away and my bs improved straight away. She said she thought I should be a type 1 as I am very active and slim. But i'm still down as type 2. I've read that people that have LADA tend to have relative with auto immune diseases, my mum had rheumatoid arthiritis. What I want to know is does it matter what type is on your medical history as long as you're getting the right treatment. I don't know if I should be asking for other tests or just accept the fact it's diabetes.

I would say an accurate diagnosis *is* important even if it makes little or no difference to your treatment at the moment. Other future options (training courses, ease of access to test strips, insulin pump) may not be available to people whose notes read Type 2. Annoying and in many ways nonsensical but there you go!

I've split this into it's own thread as the other one you posted in was quite old and already quite long 🙂
