Thought I'd share this news article, highlighting you don't have to be old or overweight to be type 2, something that is often believed by many.

"In my ignorance, I thought that diabetes was related to people that was overweight and had a poor diet. Oh, how wrong I was"

do they routinely include HbA1c in all blood tests these days?
Mine got picked up at an over 50's health check, but I don't know it was specific to that health check or not.

Many in my family had diabetes, but got very little help and a lot of bad advice. I was on a high carb diet so often throughout my adult life because it was healthy and would result in weightloss - I was told.
It actually resulted in uncontrollable weight gain, and finally in diabetes, but when first told to cut out fat and eat carbs I was not yet 20 years old and had a waist measurement of 24 inches.
When diagnosed type 2 I WAS overweight and old - but only because the symptoms of glucose intolerance and my reports of them were ignored for 45 years.
