Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi! I have just been diagnosed with Diabetes type 2. I was pre-diabetic in 2014 and no one told me. I have multiple health issues (EDS, POTS, MCAD, Secondary Adrenal and Thyroid Deficiency, Sociosis, IBS, Neuropathy, Gastroparesis, Dysautonomia etc) and since 2017 have been taking hydrocortisone for the secondary adrenal insufficiency. I've felt more unwell in the last 18 months after transsphenoidal surgery to remove a pituitary tumour. The last few HbA1c tests have been 50-52 mmol.

I've been told by my GP today that I don't need any meds and will test again in six months. Is this normal procedure? I am to have a liver ultrasound as my recent liver tests have been abnormal.

I would have thought as you have quite a list of thing going on there, you would warrant being referred to a hospital Diabetic clinic. Many find with steroids alone difficult to manage, and again Gastroparesis again makes it tricky to manage.

Hello @TCP36C and thank you for joining the forum and telling us a little about yourself.

You certainly have a lot of health issues to deal with, and I would guess that your GP will have taken these into account, when deciding about re-test and medication needs. Did your GP recommend any changes in diet?

I hope that things start to improve for you soon.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry for all your worry, especially the liver, I can relate. :(

Were you told your test results? The Hba1c level - over 47 for full on diabetes can be much higher, and might give a clue to how your diet is affecting you - higher numbers indicate greater concentrations of glucose in the blood. Hopefully you are not too high and cutting back on the carbohydrate in your diet can put you back into normal figures.

Welcome to the forum @TCP36C

My goodness, what a collection of conditions you’ve gathered there!! Were you playing Healthcare Bingo? 😛

An A1c of 50-52 isn’t far over the threshold for diagnosis, so your glucose seems reasonably well managed, but you may find you could significantly improve things by moderating the amount of carbohydrate in your diet (not just the obvious sweet and sugary things, but starchy carbs, grains and some fruits too).

It will be difficult for folks here to do much more than share their own experiences, which may be completely inappropriate for you because of the overlapping complexity of your conditions, but we have several members with some of them - just not all at once!

Hope we can give you some ideas... and lots of support and encouragement too.
